Otsego volleyball standout Morgan Shearer got her start in Spikers like hundreds of young girls; and like many others, her love of the game grew. Now volleyball is a part of her future plans after high school. Morgan Shearer will play volleyball at Kalamazoo College. “It’s super exciting to finally make it official. It all really feels surreal and like a dream still,” she says.
Playing since 5th grade in Spikers, then joining a travel team starting in8th grade, she says she could not imagine not playing in college and has set her sights on that goal. “I’m really proud of myself for all the hard work I've put into this sport that I love and how it’s paid off. I cannot wait to be in a brand new environment with a coaching staff and team that I love.”
Shearer played varsity three of her four years and was a 2-year starter. She was MVP and captain her freshman year, received the coaches award her sophomore year and earned All-Conference her junior year and served as captain her senior year. The Otsego-Plainwell rivalry games are the most memorable for her, starting with a win over the Trojans her junior year for the first time in years. “And then beating them both in the regular season and districts senior year,” she adds.
Along with volleyball, she is a part of the tennis team and National Honor Society. She plans to major in psychology and sociology/anthropology to pursue a counseling/analysis career in the medical or criminal justice field. “Kalamazoo College is the perfect fit for me both academically and athletically.”
